Learning by Heart by Roland S. Barth

In Learning by Heart, Roland Barth offers educators a refreshingly
vibrant and clear voice in the midst of the current turbulent debate
about school reform and the future of education. Most of us
signed up for this profession because we want to use our hearts as
well as our minds in order to promote young people’s learning; because
we believe deeply that learning is one of the noblest, most
profound endeavors of the human experience; and because we are
firmly committed to the value of learning in a democratic community.
Learning by Heart speaks to us. From these pages emerges
a strong sense of pride in those feelings, values, and beliefs, as well
as a call to action that is challenging, compelling—and irresistible.
